Where do I get an appraisal? Just call our office and setting up an appointment. Our team of Graduate Gemologists (GIA) are able to meet with you at our office or at the many jewelry stores we visit (check our event schedule). You can also mail-in your items to our office at 120 Tustin Ave, Ste G; Newport Beach, CA 92663. And, if you have a large volume of appraisals you can set an on-site appointment (restrictions apply).
How long until I receive my appraisal? Due to current volumes, WGS' current lead time is averaging approximately two weeks or sooner from start to finish. Same day or next day appraisals are available for an extra fee. For additional information, please refer to question related to the appraisal process.
What goes on in the appraisal process? Evaluation: This step is the where the appraiser evaluates the item. (measurements, weight, description) Date Entry: The evaluation of the item is entered into the appraisal template. Proofing: A secondary person will proofread and make corrections and price if possible. Pricing: The pricing person will price the item to his or hers best knowledge. Accuracy Check: Proofreading and a double check of the price before the appraisal is sent out.
How much do WGS appraisals cost? Costs for Insurance Replacement or Estate Appraisal vary according to the complexity of the particular item(s). This is based on the type and number of stones, the size and the required services. Appraisals are NOT based on value. What type of items do WGS appraisers appraise? We appraise all types of jewelry (including antique and vintage), loose diamonds, loose colored gemstones, diamond or gemstone parcels and collections, wrist watches, pocket watches, etc… except personal property such as pots, pans, ivory, clocks, etc.
How often does my insurance company need updates of my jewelry? Insurance companies recommend that you update your jewelry appraisal every 2 – 3 years because of economic changes, industry fluctuaions, product availability, and market changes.
